Merrell, Goodbun scoop tipping honours

Brett Merrell from Desert Group in the UAE has won the 2009 AGCSA AFL Tipping Competition, proudly presented by Floratine. Merrell, who had a one point lead heading into the final round of the AFL home and away season, managed to hold off Ben Norton-Smith from Longyard GC to win by just the one point.

All the action, however, occurred in the shed competition which ended up being shared by two Melbourne clubs – Commonwealth and Centenary Park. Commonwealth held a two point lead over Centenary Park heading into the final round, but Mark Prosser’s charges could only manage four to Centenary Park’s six to see the first tie ever in the shed stakes. The final standings and prizes from the 2009 AGCSA AFL Tipping Competition are:

Individual Overall
1st:
Brett Merrell, Desert Group UAE (143pts) - $700
2nd: Ben Norton-Smith, Longyard GC (142pts) - $150

Meanwhile, in the 2009 AGCSA NRL Tipping Competition, proudly presented by Simplot Proline, Newcastle Golf Club superintendent Matthew Goodbun has recorded the competition's biggest ever winning margin. While a single point has separated the winners in previous years, Goodbun cruised to this year’s title finishing 13 points ahead of his nearest rival.

Goodbun finished on 155 points for the season and can thank perfect cards in rounds 8-10 for putting him on top early on in the season. In the shed stakes, Pambula-Merimbula Golf Club came home with a near perfect card (7/8) to pip Grassroots (Dubbo) by two points. Here are the final standings and prizes:
